Well, it’s finally stopped raining - I’ve done no gardening done since Sunday. Didn’t manage any gardening yesterday, probably won’t do any today either - yesterday I got my new hard drive and spent the whole day just installing everything; I’m still dont finished, still got to copy over all my music and pictures, [...]
Hmmm…
The drugs do work! Well, so far. I’m feeling cheerful and energetic, and generally much happier and healthier than I’ve been for bloody ages. I’ll have to tell Doc G about it - he’ll be pleased that something he’s prescribed for me is finally working.
So I’ve really been charging ahead with work [...]
I’ve not been posting for a while - my knee ligament has decided once again that it doesn’t want to play any more. Additionally, the car has been off the road for the last week, being prepared for MOTting and taxing. So I’ve been pretty much housebound all this time - I [...]
So, spent most of the evening designing my new site. The results are here (the links aren’t working yet). I quite like it…
Still haven’t decided where I’m going to keep this blog. Shoving it onto a new domain would be the simplest answer, but I’m worried about the expense of hosting; putting [...]
Yes, I’ve been away from this blog for a week or two. Been busy with various stuff - getting the Elfin Diaries site up and running (yes, I know it looks just like the old site, but I have managed to give it a much more stable backend; there’s nothing I can do [...]
I’ve spent the last three days doing almost nothing but test out various Open Source CMS packages.
Fot a long time, I’ve been thinking of using CMS for the

Now that I’ve got a local server up and running on my machine (thanks to WAMPS - easiest local server install ever), I can now easily design Wordpress themes. This new look is one of the first results - the other is Hyde2612.net. It’s not finished yet - quite a few things, [...]
I got the PC started up this morning - then, when I went looking for a file on the 2nd hard drive, which I keep for backup - couldn’t find it. The drive, that is. It wasn’t showing up in the BIOS setup either, even after I’d checked all the cabling. But [...]

It’s been a frustrating couple of days. Yesterday, B’s computer started playing up, with crashes and corrupted files. After spending all day trying to diagnose the problems, it became clear that the old Win 98 OS was falling apart. So, we agreed to reformat the drive this morning and install XP.
Well, it [...]
Finally got this machine sorted. I kept reinstalling and getting reinfected - kept removing the trojans responsible with various tools, but failed - took a look at the instructions for completely removing trojans and decided instead to download an up to date version of XP, one with all the security bells and [...]
……damm spyware….
Spent all day yesterday trying to clear spyware and trojans from my machine. Had just about decided to give up and and reformat, when I remembered XP’s System Restore. So I gave it a try, restoring back to the point before I started installing stuff.
And so far it seems to have worked. [...]
…still having some problems with the new install. Searching for a way to make my copy of XP at least semi-legal, I went to a couple of less-than-safe sites and ending up getting blasted with trojans both times. Clearing them all out wasted a huge amount of my time [...]
….Long story short: whilst visiting a dodgy website on Tuesday, picked up a shedload of viruses and Trojans, which proceeded to royally mess up my settings - my internet connection went down, everything slowed to a crawl, my AV program froze etc etc. After spending a whole day trying and failing to clean out [...]

Finally got round to updating this blog to the very latest release of Wordpress. It’s something I’ve been putting off forever, because my experience with upgrading is that it is horribly slow and liable to go horribly wrong. For this reason, I am not looking forward to upgrading to XP; backing up [...]
…trying to get the new Oakleaf Circle site together. The navigation is proving the most difficult bit; I’m having a vertical flyout menu, which would ordinarily be pretty simple to do - if it wasn’t for blasted IE6, which cannot handle the “li:hover” element without a whole lot of hacking.
So it was with considerable [...]
